~ The Sun, the Moon, and the Sky ~
Mostly sun, but a little bit of moon and
some sky, too
:-)

Part One - Jordan Lake
As I have mentioned in many places
throughout these pages, we spend a good deal of time boating and fishing on the
local lake. Being on the lake when the sun goes down affords countless
opportunities to capture our Mother at her best-
 |
This first photo was taken in the early
spring of 1995, from the picnic area of one of the several state park accesses
to the lake. Jordan Lake enjoys several swimming beaches (no lifeguards), many
boat ramps (two are 24-hour), several campgrounds, hiking trails and an eagle
lookout, from which you can observe the lake's many nesting pairs of Bald
Eagles. It is also common to see the Eagles while boating the main areas of the
lake (visit Ailea's
Jordan Lake page).

The next is as much to view the wonderful
- and often awesome - cloud formations as the sun begins it's slow descent into
the horizon.
This photo was taken in the early summer
of 1997, on one of our regular Friday night outings on the lake. We often go out
on Friday evening, just so we can watch the setting sun which is often
incomparably beautiful. I could take hundreds of pictures at any time the sun
sets, and trust me- these are just the few of many more! |
 |
 |
I often ask myself... what is one more pretty sunset on the lake?
Yet another gorgeous toast to the
heavens!
This one was taken in June, 2000.
This IS the life! |
|
This next is the same evening, basically in the same place, with but a different
look at the sun and its rays slowly sinking into twilight- |
 |
 |
This next one (2001) was more the clouds
catching my eye as the day waned, and is taken behind the sunset - i.e., I was
facing east rather than west at the time.
Sometimes we go to fish, sometimes we go
for pleasure and sometimes we just go to watch the sky. |
|
This photo is also from 2001, and was
taken at about the same time as the one immediately above. The biggest
difference here is, I am facing west, into the sunset, with my back to the
clouds seen above. |
 |
 |
This photo, too, was in 2001. We were
fishing on this evening, but as happens often, I had the camera with me... "just
in case..."
This picture was taken rather early in
the evening, just as we had launched the boat and were winding our way into the
river, and then into the lake proper, and the sun is rather high in the sky yet.
The cloud cover made such beautiful contrasts it was an image impossible to
resist.
This particular spot is not far from the
infamous boat dock (see the
Boatdock Story) and is
actually what is known as Roberson Creek, which empties into the Haw River at
just about this point, and which is dammed to create the lake itself.
|
|
This photo was taken well after the sun
set, as you might guess given how dark the shore has become. As often happens,
the cloud formations are as breathtaking as the colors of the sunset itself.
This image is no exception! |
 |
 |
This is the first of a series of three,
with the others to follow, immediately below.
One of the truly spectacular evenings we
were lucky enough to enjoy while out on the lake.
Enjoy... |
|
Life just doesn't get any better than this, does it?
I mean, this is about as good as you
could possibly ask! |
 |
|
 |
This final sunset image on the lake was
taken in 2004, with the dark and ominous clouds of a good storm brewing
overhead. |
There are plenty more images of the sky
to enjoy, don't stop here!
