~ Spaying and Neutering ~

I admit, not long ago, I was one to shout from the rooftops that anyone who acquires a dog as a pet should spay or neuter that dog, period, no questions asked, it's a law you have to do it, forever and ever amen. No longer. While it is obvious spaying and neutering is the easiest way to prevent pregnancy and unwanted offspring, it is not the be-all and end-all answer to pet population, health, or behavior issues, and is not necessarily so desirous as breeders once believed.

There is a veritable truckload of information available on the web regarding the spaying and neutering of our pets. In many instances scare tactics are utilized, to one or another end of the spectrum. As the information about spaying and neutering has evolved, so has my thoughts, and until I am able to more carefully dissect new study results, I think my blanket statement in regards to spaying and neutering will be  to defer information to an article available at NAIA online, here: http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongTermHealthEffectsOfSpayNeuterInDogs.pdf

It is not rocket science, but may take a bit of digestion to understand the message given. I will be re-addressing this issue in the next few days, so I ask your patience!
