This part is probably the hardest part of all to write about.

Rescue.

It is so very hard to imagine any sheltie requiring rescue - they are such a wonderful breed - but it is a very painful fact of life they do need rescued (as do hundreds of millions of other dogs and other species). And I am here to help do my part. Rescue shelties are special and belong in a special, exclusive club all their own, simply by virtue of needing rescue.

Sheltie Rescue is here to help the unwanted, unloved and uncared-for shelties of the world. Regardless of condition or age, in most cases, shelties needing rescue are taken into loving households, bathed, groomed, seen to medically, evaluated, loved, and nurtured. They are available for adoption into approved homes, homes that are carefully screened, but because of that screening, homes that those in Rescue hope and pray will be the right "forever" home for that special sheltie, the home into which that special sheltie may retire for the rest of its natural life.

Sheltie Rescue is here to help the sick, abandoned, mistreated, abused, neglected. Where hope and belief in the goodness of mankind may have died from a sheltie's eyes, Rescue does its best to restore that hope and belief by giving those special shelties those things they deserve - a warm house, a full belly, a clean body, a clean bed to sleep in, and most of all, a loving and understanding hand.

Wherever there is a sheltie breeder who does not place companions under spay/neuter contract and limited registration; wherever there is a sheltie breeder not following up on spay/neuter contracts; wherever there is a sheltie breeder cranking out puppies for any reason other than to improve the breed as a whole; wherever there is a sheltie breeder willing to sell to pet stores and brokers; wherever there is a sheltie breeder who does not carefully screen prospective homes - there is and will be a need for Rescue.

Wherever there is a sheltie needing a home; wherever there is a sheltie abandoned, or sick, or abused, or neglected, there is a need for Rescue. And shelties being the popular breed they are, they need rescued wherever you may go or wherever you may be.

If you have room in your heart for a sheltie, or any other breed of dog for that matter, then you have room in your heart to help Rescue. Volunteer time. Provide transportation. Be a foster home. Donate money, even if that donation is only $5. Every ounce of effort DOES make a difference!

And remember, the difference you are making is in the life of a sheltie.
