The following photographs include some photos from home that were fun in the taking and viewing. Some are silly, while others are something to think about. I hope you enjoy them!
This first image at left is a photograph of Cherokee Lake, taken from atop Clinch Mountain, in eastern Tennessee. About as remarkable as the lake itself is the heavy cloud layer that hangs so close to the mountain tops - nearly close enough to touch, it seemed - had the day not been balmy, you might actually expect there to be snow hiding in them there clouds! As it turns out though, with temperatures in the 60's, it was nothing but a very wet rain.
During the month of January 2000, central North Carolina enjoyed two separate snowfalls - the first a typical dusting of a couple of inches, and the second a substantial dump of more than fifteen inches at Ailea's Place. In-betwixt these two snowfalls, just as the first was drying up and blowing away and mere days before the major dump landed upon us we happened to discover a new species of horned animal. Just by chance of luck a photograph of this creature was taken, and is shown at left. It is unknown at this time if there are others of these creatures, and/or if a hunting season for these mysterious things may be in the making. Will keep you updated as we learn more...
The image at right - a frightening visage, indeed! - was a common sight that memorable January, as the search for the unknown, newly discovered horned creature was undertaken. Dressed for warmth (there WAS eventually 15 inches of snow on the ground!), the fearless hunter pictured at right could be seen stalking the woodlands and wetlands in the area. What dedication and courage!!
Is THIS (at left) a sight or what? YES, this is Sarah. YES, there is 13 to 15 inches of snow on the deck. YES, she is standing in her PAJAMAS with her daddy's work boots on, outside, in the snow, and the cold! She's out there to get dog food, and carried the broom with her to brush off the cans so she could get to the food stored inside. I promise, NO ONE told her she could not get dressed or put on a coat to feed the dogs! This was her doing and her doing alone. Mama's daughter?????
Look closely at the copperhead, in the photo at right. This photo was taken in the back yard of the cabin we used to live in before building Ailea's Place, the snake was found in the back yard, not 30 feet from the back door of the house, under one of the huge oak trees. Though plagued by snakes all 8+ years we lived there, the summer immediately preceding our move to Wood Road was the first summer immediately following the death of the 10-foot long black snake that had resided on the property, and was the first we had seen any copperheads in the yard ever. Once we saw one though, we saw several. A total of FOUR big copperheads were found - and killed - within six weeks' time, right in the yard! YIKES!!!

and Sookie (St. Magnus Ailea Moonstruck),
piled up all at the same time, each one trying to get the prime spot
close to my chest. If there had been room - trust me - Rookie and Taylor would have piled
up on there, as well! This was taken by my sister following my heart
attack in November, 1999. And these silly dogs were my very best medicine at the
time!
