~ Ice Storm ~ February, 2005 ~
I started this page out intending to give
each image its own caption. Winter in Carolina does tend to bring ice rather than snow, although we have, on occasion, been surprised by dumps of snow measuring 15 inches and more, in some of the more recent years - always a treat! While I would trade ice for snow any day of any winter, it is very difficult to surpass the beauty of an icy winter wonderland. You may note the light haze of steam rising up and into the trees. This is the result of the warming of the day - from the 30 to 32-degree fall of rain which resulted in the ice coating, into the low-to-mid-forties, which gave the melting off a huge jump-start. Gives the neighborhood a definite feel of surreal. . . Each image speaks well enough for itself. I hope you enjoy them all.
