~ The Breeding Main Page ~

An interesting, preliminary note well worth sharing with all who will read (and please, read!):

There are, as you are aware, many different health issues that affect our shelties. Many of these are discussed on my page on Sheltie Health. There is one, however, I think cannot appear too often in this web site and so I include it here for you- I bred a bitch several years ago, with a litter of one live puppy surviving. This puppy was beautiful and healthy until a day or so after she was no longer taking mother's milk. Within 24 - 30 hours of being completely weaned this puppy started suffering grand mal seizures, the cause of which bewildered me, my vet, two other vets in the same clinic, and the NC State Vet School - at least until their post-mortem necropsy was complete.

Turns out, this puppy - I called her Tara - had a systemic infection she acquired in utero although the dam of the puppy was not herself suffering any infection. I have since come to find out my experience with Tara was not unique, she was not the only puppy to have suffered so. If you breed shelties, you might should read Tara's Page, so you can learn and tuck the information away in case the day comes - Heaven forbid! - you are faced with a similar problem.

Please help yourself to any of the topics on Breeding listed below. I hope you find my words here informative and in some instances  entertaining, but mostly I hope to encourage thinking, intelligent consideration, of these things I have to say-

Should you read something here and wish to express your own thoughts to me, please do feel free to do so! Regardless your reaction to mine on these topics, it is my privilege and pleasure to exchange thinking and opinion - the learning curve never dies! - and invite all takers with an open mind.

So please, feel free. A link to my e-mail appears at the bottom of each and every page within the confines of that which is called, Ailea's Place.

Please do enjoy your visit here, and CHEERS!
