Masterpiece Miss Emily

"Emily"

December 22, 1997 - May 7, 2010

You needed a home that first day we met, and for 9 more years you were by my side, following me everywhere, my faithful buddy. Now you are gone from my sight and hearing and I can no longer brush or touch your beautiful fur, and that bright and happy face is not there to get us up in the morning nor to greet us at the door, but the place where you live in my heart will always be there, filled with memories of our too short time together... The daily walks, receiving your Canine Good Citizen Award, accompanying me as I taught art classes at the college, sharing lunch, the many road trips from Arizona to Florida to Nova Scotia, and the quiet times just hanging out in the garden (you used to come up as I was working there and stick your nose in my face just to check on me; you were such a helper). You were my humane education partner as we spread the message of kindness to countless children, from 40 inner city kids all packed into a hot room to classes of rural children and nursing home patients. You loved my grandchildren too, especially when they had food! Through it all you were a canine ambassador, possessed of a sweet disposition and a gentle spirit, always the lady, politely introducing yourself with a quiet wag of your tail. No one could resist your patient and loving heart, and I live in gratitude for all the years we had, though they were far too short. You were truly a Masterpiece, my beautiful "Little Em."

Love, Sharon from Hillman, Michigan

"Abby"

April, 1996 - April, 2010

"Abby", our beautiful and loyal merle sheltie, transitioned to the Bridge in April 2010, just 3 days after her 14th birthday. We rescued Abby in 2000, and she quickly became the "queen mother" of our little pack. Even our head pack dog, Prince, stopped and listened to Abby, for she was wise and spoke with authority. As 63 other rescue shelties came and passed through our home to adoption, Abby was the greeter, the teacher, and on occasion the enforcer. We never had need for a crate, even with illness, for Nurse Abby maintained a house of love, joy and peace.

Never really sick in the 10 years she shared with us, her heart gave out in a matter of two days and we all knew it was her time. She had the softest fur and the most beautiful full tail of any sheltie we have seen. We learned from her, as she gave us her all. She is now with our Prince and Ginger playing in the green fields and doing important work for the angels. I will see her one of these days after my rescue work is done and I go to join her and other waiting family.

"Kelsey"

September 10, 2000 - June 19, 2010

We knew Kelsey was a very special dog from the day we adopted her. She had a gentleness about her no other dog had. She would put her snout under your hand if she wanted to be petted or give you her paw and that would melt your heart. Kelsey had a beautiful coat and she loved to be brushed. As an over-sized, tri-color Sheltie, she seemed to sense she was a beautiful Sheltie and that she was special.

She loved to jump on the bed and put her head on our pillow at night. We'd tickle her tummy and then she'd get down and lie down by the side of the bed. Kelsey gently licked your face and I will never forget how she would lick the water off my legs after I got out of the shower.

Thunder was Kelsey's biggest nemesis. No matter what we tried to do, we could never calm her during thunderstorms. She would bark loudly and pace from one end of the house to the other. It just isn't the same during a storm now.

When we adopted Kelsey, we knew she was about 5 years old but we did not know her exact birth date. Since we got her on September 10, 2005, I gave her a birth date of September 10, 2000. Our hearts were broken on June 11, 2009 when we found out she had a tumor on her lung. Nine days later she was at the specialist and 4 days after that it was confirmed she had lung cancer. We were faced with the agonizing decision of operating with the hope to give her more time, but we had to keep in mind her quality of life. With surgery, we were told she might live a year and without it, she would probably last only 6 months. We elected not to have the surgery and we were blessed with having her for one year and a week after they found the tumor.

Our hearts were broken when we lost Kelsey but she will remain in our hearts forever until we see her again at the Rainbow Bridge!

Mickey Parker

"Mickey"

September 10, 2000 - June 19, 2010

Mickey Parker, beloved canine companion of the Parker Family passed from this life late Tuesday night. He recently developed heart problems and was unable to breathe unassisted. He was a noble, dignified little dog with a few quirks that annoyed and endeared. He was a Sheltie, who herded us as we walked and kept watch as we sat. He graced our lives with love and joy for nine and a half years. I've never felt this bad about the loss of a dog or cat. It hurts to think I'll not see his nose poking through the picket fence barking a greeting as I walk up the drive, or see his white ruffled chest bounce as he trots to greet me this side of heaven.

"Missy"

March, 1997 - February, 2010

My Guardian and The Love of My Life
From the time I first held you in my hand
Till the time I last stroked your head
I had to let you go and it was so, so hard to do
You had the Heart of a Lion
and the Spirit to go with it
I know you will be at the Garden Gate
You are forever in my Heart
